Contentfully stressed

This is a character that I made up for a story that I've been trying to think up
the initial pencil sketch
Been trying to think up work out some compostions, for possible paintings for my senior show, some russian kind of forest scenes, and what would it be without a squid tree.

Things are going pretty good, was a little hectic there for a bit with the stuff for the film I was working on, pretty awesome knowing that my work will be appearing in a film that will be coming out in theathers and all that jazz, oh and I'm and extra in a couple of scenes, so thats pretty cool to. Its nice to be done with it though, less stress now i just have stress of school. Although my personal life isnt to stressful as of late, I in fact think that things are going pretty well... but anyways, how all is well for everyone out there, and if you havent heard of them yet, i strongly suggest checking out Tunng, the good arrows album, pretty weird but pretty nice all the same.

Happy Halloween

So sadly I don't think Ill be able to be Hellboy for halloween, couldn't figure out anything to use as the hand. I thought that a Hockey glove would be the best but I couldn't find anything within my price range, I think I could go as Ace Ventura maybe, or a skeleton, that would be a good time. If anyone has any ideas, granted its short notice, I would love to hear them

Been kind of a weird week, confusing, sleepless. But I think its going to be alright, and maybe things will even go the way that Id like them to, heres hoping. 

Hope everyones holiday goes well, I think that mine will, going to a costume party downtown with a pretty stellar lady, might even see my little sister, Chaney late in the evening.

So stuffs been going pretty good I think, bills are no fun but they never are, it seems like whenever i pay one i get another one in the mail; but thats the way alot of things go, like keeping my kitchen clean.

 Anyways i got a new job working on a film in Kzoo, so I will probably get to get down there more then I have in a while, see Alex and those guys. This is a rhinorilla robot, i think i might use him for some business cards. well back to painting it is have a beautiful afternoon.

Just a sketchbook piece that i kinda liked. So the show went awesome, we raised over 1,ooo dollars. Things are going alright in life around allendale, should probably get a new part time job, JJs is not really a great time, then again i should also probably be out enjoying my last year of college alittle bit more then I am.

I thought of an interesting quote a while back becuase of a situation I seem to be in alot, "on the road of life sometimes your the truck and sometimes your the possum" kinda bleak I suppose but honestly often is. its kinda like at JRob in high school i remeber seeing that a quote tacked on the wall in the dorm that we stayed at in Minnisota, something about how the gazelle wakes up each day making the decision to run and the lion wakes up and decides to hunt the gazelle, Im sure i made rubbish of it but it was something along those lines. both these quotes just make me think that you more or less have to decides what your going to be that day, are you going to get tread on? or are you going to let things get in your way?

side note, i just repurchased an album that was stolen out of my car a while back, The Presidents of the United States of America's first album, spectacular

 These are a selection of the pieces that i will be including in the World Vision benefit show that I am involved with. Their are several other wonderful people who will also be in the show, who i believe all have a blog in my art friends section to the right if youd like to check out some of their stuff. All pieces will start at 15 or 20 dollars and there will be bidding all next week, the proceeds will all be donated to the World Vision benefit which helps people around the world by helping with a variety of things including food, shelter and medical supplies.

The show will be put up in the Padnos gallery in the Calder art center tomorrow afternoon, and the reception for the show will be next week thursday the 18th from 5 to 7, there will be great food, awesome art and even awesomer people.

Trying to figure out what im doing for my senior show, im thinking of a doing a collection of Russian fairy tales, like Baba Yaga, and Finist the bright falcon. anyways been doing lots of little yupo stuff i think I might also make a print book for my show, and have the original prints, and then books of the digital prints.

 went back to working at the zoo becuase i couldnt find another job, but its not so bad; signifigantly less drama so far then when i worked there before. but then again i dont think there could have been as much as there was that summer. Allendale is kinda boring in the summers when there are no classes to take

So not to much has been going on in the life of Mike Hoskins, I got a new car, and a new phone, so i suppose there is that. I miss my old car, she will be missed. well here is a happy bubble frog

So im planning on building a couch out of recycled materials, that might be sweet right? I was going to 'aquire' a bunch of milk crates, but it appears GV has cleaned and organized and there arent any over by fresh anymore, sadnews....

Had a pleasant weekend, kayaking with danielle, Ryan, josh, jake and rachel. was a pretty good time, nice little dam/waterfall type thing was a good time and some good quick points. Been doing some freelance stuff and t-shirts, but i have a job interview tommorow so hopefully that goes well.  This is a deciped, (10legs) i just finished him yesterday so i figured i might as well throw him up for your viewing pleasure. have a beautiful day

I've been trying some new pen an ink stuff during my free time, which unfortunatly i have alot of lately. Thats always the way it goes though isnt it, when you have tons to do everyone wants to hang out and do fun stuff, but when you have nothing at all to do, no one is around. And Summer Begins

Hello, sorry that i havent posted anything in a while, its the busy time of the semester. John if you read this I havent forgotten you. 

Soon I will have a digital image of the painting that has consumed the better part of this semester, the one that that sketch a bit lower down is for, the one that says its for a drawing installation. Well its the central piece of my installation, and there (hopefully) will be digital prints for the show that it will exhibited at this friday the 18th of April.

 If your interested in coming it will at 333 division, the corner of divison and goodrich (just down past the goodwill there) from 6pm to 11pm. I will, again hopefully, be selling prints at the show and will take orders if I run out.

Yupo print, ive been doing these fish the last few days because ive been getting really tired of painting my large watercolor, which will be up when ever it is up im planning on haveing it made into prints for the advanced drawing show during avenue of the arts downtown.

I personally like the pineapple fish but thats just me

So me and Jroody when we were getting stuff framed for society found these sweet water soluble pencils, which is what that is an image of, they work beautifully. Finished building my giant duck sculpture, but am not quite done painting it, hope to get that going this afternoon, once he is done maybe ill throw a pic of him up here. I've got an idea to build all my furniture for next year over the summer out of recycled materials, like a water bottle coffee table, and door tables. Milk crates will also as always in my apartments be a large theme, thank you Dave. Well I hope that everyone had a lovely Easter, I was painting, but my mom told me the food was good. 

So ill leave you with my closing thought, why in horror movies with some type of creature do they always format the film the same way. With some ill advised teens going off to some strange secluded scary spot to make-out(first off all why are you going to scary places to make-out) and then some type of dark thing drags them off, and you dont really find out what is really is until like an hour in and then your like well I guess thats what a giant hamster that was sealed in a radioactive containment bunker for the last 30 years would look like. its always kind of a let down.

 So I completely didnt think about the fact that my stuff would be up on the Society of Illustrators website as well.  here it is      Society of Illustrators Website

I had a dream where there were cats that had the face of that really creepy thing from behind the restaurant in Mulholland Dr, they cackled..... terrifiying

So this piece and the one on an earlier post(the otter walking into a doorway held open by a hedgehog) have been accepted into the Society of Illustrators competition in New York. Out of 5863 entries 130 were selected and two of those were mine, so needless to say I am fairly excited.

I also bought new hawaiian shorts, which is also pretty exciting. they are brown and blue. anyways have a wonderful evening

Happy UnValentines

So many know that im a little cynical when it comes to Valentines day, which is why this year i made two separate cards. The top one is the general card, while the zombie one will be for those of my friends who look forward to Valentines as a zombie movie marathon kinda day. The Dinosaurs are for a print im doing and ill have the print up once the other part of it is done. Anyways have a good day

Some last semester stuff

Well I realized this afternoon that i hadnt put up anything from last semester, Illustration wise. These are from my Wind in the Wilds stuff that im sending to The Society of Illustrators competition. The colors are a little off, I will try to fix that later. there was some other stuff that was sent that I will post sometime soon.
